Neflix cuts 50 tech jobs; streaming issues linger | Digital Media - CNET NewsCnet has the above write up on Netflix (who has been getting tons of press for their streaming to everything they can...) One interesting tidbit is this quote:Swasey said there just wasn't as much need to keep so many tech specialists. He credited Microsoft's Silverlight with making it easier for customers to install Netflix's player on PCs and Macs.Which is certainly a nice to hear for MS as they continue to pick up market share from Adobe Flash.Of course the commentary from the vocal public is they should just stick with flash, because it seems like everyone forgets Flash is a plug in too... Or they just blindly hate everything from MS, which is of course silly. Silverlight is a publication medium you know I am fan of, but regardless anyone interested in rich media on the web should be thankful that Microsoft is pushing the game forward since it spurs inovation. All of this aside, I feel for the 50 folks who are loosing their job, it's getting a little hard to keep reading about the layoffs that are happening seemingly everywhere.
